The Wixárika are an ancient Indigenous tribe from the Sierra Madre Occidental range in Central Mexico. Their territory is primarily in the state of Nayarit but also extends through Jalisco, Durango and Zacatecas. The Wixarika are wisdom keepers who have developed an intricate system of symbols and songs to articulate their cosmovision. They are known for their mastery in skills such as beadwork, embroidery and yarn paintings which serves as visual representations of their oral history and culture. Their spiritual beliefs recognizes the importance of honoring the sacred reciprocal relationships between humans and nature in order to successfully co-exist with the universe.

The Marakames (translated as the ones who can dream, heal, and sing) are master healers and the spiritual leaders of the Wixárika. Their life purpose as a peoples is to maintain the equilibrium in the cosmos and planet by making continuous offerings and pilgrimages to sacred sites to pray and feed the elements. Their culture is heavily revolved around these ceremonies in order to ask for blessings, healing and guidance from the spirits and most importantly, to give thanks to that which gives and sustains life.

Los wixárikas son una antigua tribu indígena de La Sierra Madre Occidental en el centro de México. Su territorio se encuentra principalmente en el estado de Nayarit, pero también se extiende a través de Jalisco, Durango y Zacatecas. Los wixárikas han desarrollado un intrincado sistema de símbolos y cantos para articular su cosmovisión. Son conocidos por su dominio en habilidades como de la chaquira, el bordado y las pinturas de hilo, que sirven como representaciones visuales de su historia oral y cultural. Sus creencias espirituales reconocen la importancia de honorar la sagrada relación entre los humanos y la naturaleza, para así coexistir con éxito en el universo.

Los marakames (traducido como los que pueden soñar, sanar y cantar) son curanderos maestros y los lideres espirituales de los wixárikas. El propósito del  pueblo es mantener el equilibrio del cosmos, haciendo continuas ofrendas y peregrinaciones a lugares sagrados, para rezar con los elementos. Su cultura esta afianzada fuertemente a estas ceremonias, de esta forma reciben bendiciones, sanción, guía de los espíritus, pero principalmente agradecen a lo que da y sostiene la vida.
